TitleMay Day Celebrations
DescriptionLiving Village Collection A13
Children pose round the May Pole for the May Day celebrations held near the Village Green with the old Alms Cottages in the background. The cottage on the right belonged to Mrs Bailey who would mangle washing for a farthing. In 1913 the village May Day celebrations were revived after a long period of time thanks to the school teacher Miss Johnson who trained the children. (Legend taken from A Pictorial View of Old Higham Ferrers and Chelveston)
